Thanks to all who donated to the Auroville Area directory project! We have enough funds to make a start, and start we have.

We aim to post updates here, hopefully at least one a week, aimed at keeping donors engaged.

Last night we called a meeting and 11 people showed up, all surprisingly keen to direct their energy towards this. After another meeting today we have agreed on the vision, mission and general intention of the project.

We have the full support of Snehal, who runs Kofibar and the Sapney permaculture project. He has been here some time and is even now telling his friends within and without Auroville about our intentions. He says that the need for such a service is widely acknowledged and anticipates much support from people within Auroville.

This will be much appreciated. As of now we have a shortage of computers and phones and desks. The first priority is print a leaflet to explain in English and Tamil exactly what is going on. Then as soon as possible we'll have a basic web site up where we can start to store data, then we'll be ready to send out the capture crew.

Because one volunteer has a video camera, we are attempting to capture everything on video which can be used lateer for any purpose that strikes our fancy. If we can foster outside interest in this project, the benefits would be enormous.
